Welcome to the arenas page!

In each arena you’ll find three things:
1. Its scoring system.
2. Its scoreboard.
3. A submission form to get points for your actions.
ARENA: SPREADING THE WORD
The basic idea is simple: tell people about the boycott!
And the more people you tell, the more points you get.
You get points every time you inform others about the boycott.
There are only two requirements:
1. You must include a link (or verbal reference) to the boycott game.
2. At least one person (other than you) must receive the information.
That’s it.
Any format or medium is fine: it can be in person, in a handwritten note, over the phone, by text, zoom, email, social media post, reply, comment, youtube video, whatever.
So a text or post simply saying “check it out: [link to boycott game]” counts.
(Of course we prefer persuasive, compelling appeals over just “check this out”.
But for playability we have to keep things simple.
And you can get points for persuasive, compelling presentations in the Expressing Your Creativity arena.)
You get points every time you spread the word.
And we mean every time: even if you tell the same people over and over again.
(We even considered giving you a bonus for repetition.)
And every act counts on its own.
If you tell five people, then a minute later tell five other people, don’t count that as a single act of telling ten people.
Submit two separate acts with five recipients each.
The more people you spread the word to the more points you get.
To keep things manageable, we’ve given you five ‘estimated reach tiers’ to choose from.
Each time you transmit the relevant information, estimate how many people will receive that information.
Your estimate needn’t be exact (and if you’re genuinely not sure, choose the higher tier).
Here are the five tiers, and the points you get for them:
Estimated number of recipients points
1-10 10
11-100 50
101-1,000 500
1,001-10,000 2500
10,000+ 10000
That is the core of the Spreading The Word scoring system.
There are, however, four more factors that can influence how many points you get:
1. How many recipients did you personally know? (10 points for each, max 100)
[“personally known” = family, friend, or acquaintance – anyone who isn’t a total stranger]
2. Did you spread the word verbally rather than just in writing?
(this doubles your points for reach tier and personally known recipients)
3. Did you provide us with verification of your word-spreading? (10 points if so)
[The game is mostly on the honor system, with verification rewarded but not required.
However, verification is required for submissions in the top two reach tiers.
See here [link] for how to verify.
Note also that arena winners will be required to undergo an audit: no winning by cheating!]
4. Did you act fast?
(30 point bonus for actions submitted on or before 4/1, then decreasing by 1 point a day)
[The game ends at the end of April so time is of the essence. Note that this bonus is automatically added and is determined by submission time, even if you acted earlier. We don’t just want you to do things fast, we want to show it the world via the scoreboard fast.]
